Educate Your Children on Why Some People Do Drugs

do drugs

Do you have children? If so, you want to do everything in your power to protect them from harmful things in this world and that includes drugs. It is best to teach children somewhat early about drugs so they don’t fall into an addiction. Many children are starting to do drugs at twelve and thirteen years old. Is addiction hereditary? If so, make sure you talk to your children as soon as they are old enough to understand. A good place to start is to educate your children on why some people do drugs.

Not Enough Knowledge

You can start by letting your children know that some people do drugs because they don’t have enough knowledge about them. They may have been given the wrong information or not been informed at all about drugs. Is addiction hereditary? Let them know that some people learn from family members that doing drugs is normal. Inform your children that even if others tell them it is alright to do drugs it isn’t.

Peer Pressure

Educate your children about peer pressure and drugs. Talk to them in detail, especially as they get older, about how peer pressure works. You may want to talk out some scenarios with your children. Say something that someone else might to them about doing drugs. Ask them what their answer would be. There more you practice this, the more educated your child will be and the more prepared your child will be to say no if offered or pressured by someone.

Rebelling

You should also let your children know that some people do drugs to rebel. They may be rebelling against their parents, a partner, a friend or life. Let your child know that it is not safe to do drugs at all, especially not in the matter of rebelling. Many people who have done drugs when rebelling have overdosed and some of those were fatal.

Mental Health Issues

It is important to talk to your children about mental health issues. Let them know what some of the symptoms of these issues may be. This way if they ever start experiencing these issues they can talk to you about them. You don’t want your children to hide the symptoms because they don’t know what is going on with their body. You surely don’t want them doing drugs to cover up those symptoms either.

These are some of the things you should educate your children on about why some people are doing drugs.
